Our summer internships give current students hands-on work experience at one of the world's largest and most progressive investment funds. You will work on real AI projects over eight to ten weeks between June and August, with placements in Oslo, London and New York.
During the internship, you will get a thorough introduction to Norges Bank Investment Management and meet senior managers and colleagues from across the organisation.
You will take part in team projects and a lunchtime lecture series, and connect with fellow interns through social events and team activities. We nurture a culture where high performance and enjoyment go hand in hand.

As an intern, you join a specific team. You work on an AI project tied to that team’s focus, and take part in its day to day work. Previous projects include "AI and automation for renewable energy infrastructure", "machine learning for equity management", "equity enhanced indexing investment simulation" and predicting capital market events". The balance between project work and wider team involvement varies by business area.
You will have a dedicated manager to guide your project and set your daily tasks, and a buddy to support you throughout. At the end of the internship, you present your work to the wider organisation.
We are looking for students with a strong interest in AI and technology and curiosity about how these tools can be applied. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including data science, AI, finance, computer science, mathematics, statistics and engineering. We value diverse perspectives and encourage applications from candidates with different life experiences and backgrounds.
You do not need to be a tech expert. Curiosity, analytical thinking and a willingness to learn matter just as much. Whether you have built things, worked with data, or simply found yourself asking "how does this work, and could it be done better?", we would like to hear from you.

The programme has fixed start and end dates, listed in the job advertisements. If a date does not work for you, raise it during the interview process if you are selected.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a digital interview by mid-November.

Selected candidates will receive an invitation to an online assessment on 19-20 October. Please pay attention to your mailbox during these days.
When applying, you fill in a structured CV form. You answer questions about your background, experience and motivation. You also upload your transcripts. A few things to note:
The programme is open to students at bachelor’s, master’s, MBA, and PhD level. High school students are not eligible. You must be currently enrolled in, or formally accepted to, a degree programme, and have no more than two years of full-time work experience. Internships and part-time work during studies do not count towards this limit.
You do not need to be enrolled during the internship itself. Students who complete their studies in winter or spring before the programme starts are eligible, as are students who have recently graduated and are accepted to a future degree programme starting in the autumn.
There is no minimum year-of-study requirement, though students in later years of their degree tend to be more competitive. English is the working language across the organisation. Norwegian is not required.
Please consider your right to work in the location of the internship. We cannot sponsor visa applications or provide accommodation and relocation support.
If you are applying for an internship role in London or New York, you must hold valid work authorisation for the full duration of the programme before the start date. Please note that a travel, tourist, or student visa does not permit you to work and will not fulfil this requirement.
If you are from a country outside the EU/EEA applying for a position in Oslo, you must hold a valid Norwegian student residence permit through the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). This permit includes the right to work up to 40 hours per week during official holiday periods. Applicants without this permit must obtain alternative work authorisation from UDI before taking up a summer internship in Oslo.
Employment with Norges Bank is conditional on an approved security and background check. This follows Norges Bank’s policies. It may include criminal background and credit checks. It may also verify your employment history and education. We only start these checks for successful candidates. They must be completed and approved before we finalise an employment offer. Full guidance is provided at the offer stage. You do not need to prepare any documents in advance.
An internship could be the start of a long career at the fund. It is the most common route into our graduate programme, which we recruit for one year ahead. The graduate programme is also open to candidates who have not interned with us.
