Nicolai Tangen is responsible for the performance and day-to-day management of the Government Pension Fund Global. The management responsibility includes operation and development of Norges Bank Investment Management.
Tangen joined Norges Bank Investment Management as Chief Executive Officer on 1 September 2020.
Tangen was previously Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer in AKO Capital, which he founded in 2005. He also set up the AKO Foundation in 2013, which supports charitable initiatives to improve education, promote the arts and mitigate climate problems. Prior to this, Tangen was a partner and senior analyst at Egerton Capital and an equity analyst at Cazenove & Co.
Tangen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in finance from the Wharton School and Master’s Degrees in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art and in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics. He has also studied Russian at the Norwegian Armed Forces’ School of Intelligence and Security.
Trond Grande is responsible for the Staff area and functions as a Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
Grande was appointed Chief of Staff/Deputy Chief Executive Officer on 6 October 2020. He held the role as Deputy Chief Executive Officer since February 2011. From April of the same year and until the end of 2017, he was also Chief Administrative Officer. From 1 October 2014 to 1 January 2016, he had the day-to-day responsibility for the real estate organisation. Grande joined Norges Bank Investment Management in November 2007 as Global Head of Risk Management and has later also filled the role of Deputy Chief Operating Officer. He was named Chief Risk Officer in October 2009.
Grande previously spent 11 years at Storebrand Kapitalforvaltning and held positions including Senior Vice President Finance and Senior Vice President Financial Risk Management.
Grande holds a Master's Degree in International Management from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) and ESADE in Barcelona. He also has an MBA in finance from the Norwegian School of Economics.
Age Bakker is responsible for fulfilling the strategy and action plan for the Technology area, including processes in IT services and administrative services.
Age Bakker was appointed Chief Technology Officer 6 October 2020. Bakker held the position as Chief Operating Officer from October 2009. He joined Norges Bank Investment Management earlier that year as Global Head of IT.
Bakker has previously held positions within teaching and the investment management industry. He spent 14 years with Storebrand Kapitalforvaltning, most recently as Chief Operating Officer.
Bakker has a Master’s degree in economics from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and intermediate subjects in computer science from the University of Tromsø.
Birgitte Bryne is responsible for trading processing, measurement and reporting and investment and administrative services in the operation area.
Birgitte Bryne was appointed Chief Operating officer 6 October 2020. She joined Norges Bank Investment Management in September 2015 as Global Head of Investment Administration.
Bryne came from the position as CFO at Nordea Bank Norge ASA. She has held various positions in SEB Enskilda Securities ASA, amongst other derivatives trader, Chief of Staff and COO for Equities.
She has a Bachelor degree from Oslo University College (HIO) in Economics and Business Administration.
Mie Caroline Holstad is overall responsible for investments and portfolio and asset management in unlisted and listed real estate; and unlisted renewable energy infrastructure. In addition, the Chief Real Assets Officer is overall responsible for real assets operations, ensuring adequate guidelines, resources and tools, and encouraging continuous improvement of processes.
Mie Caroline Holstad was appointed Chief Real Assets Officer on 6 October 2020. She came from the position as Global Head of Real Estate Operations. She joined Norges Bank Investment Management in September 2010 and has held a number of positions. From 2014-2019, she held the position of Chief Administrative Officer of Norges Bank Real Estate Management.
Prior to joining Norges Bank Investment Management, Ms Holstad worked for PwC, within audit and advisory services.
Ms Holstad holds a Master of Science in Business and Economics and a Master in Professional Accounting, both from BI Norwegian Business School.
Dag Huse is responsible for the analysis, monitoring, measurement and reporting of investment risk and return for the fund.
Huse was appointed Chief Risk Officer on 1 October 2014. He joined Norges Bank Investment Management in May 2003 as a Senior Portfolio Manager. He was named Global Head of Investment Risk in October 2012.
Prior to joining Norges Bank Investment Management, Huse held positions at Alfred Berg Norge AS, DnB Investor AS and Elcon Securities AS.
Huse has a Master's Degree in Business from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH).
Carine Smith Ihenacho is responsible for the governance and compliance area, which includes ownership and responsible investment activities, control and operational risk, compliance and legal services.
Carine Smith Ihenacho was appointed Chief Governance and Compliance Officer 6 October 2020. She joined Norges Bank Investment Management in August 2017 as Global Head of Ownership Strategies and was promoted to Chief Corporate Governance Officer on 1 January 2018.
Prior to joining Norges Bank Investment Management, Ms Ihenacho was Vice President Legal and Chief Compliance Officer in Statoil ASA. She has more than 20 years’ experience as a lawyer, working in both financials and the oil and gas industry, as well as in law firms. She also has extensive board experience.
Ihenacho holds a law degree from the University of Oslo, a Master of Law from Harvard Law School and a Master of Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH).
Petter Johnsen is responsible for company investments, including internal equity and credit security selection.
Petter Johnsen was appointed Chief Equities Officer on 1 April 2011. Since 1 October 2014 he has held the position of Chief Investment Officer Equity Strategies. He joined Norges Bank Investment Management on 1 September 2003 as a portfolio manager, a position he held until August 2010, when he was appointed Global Head of Sector Strategies.
Prior to joining Norges Bank Investment Management, Johnsen was Assistant Vice President at Merrill Lynch in London between October 2000 and August 2003. He previously worked as a research analyst at Morgan Stanley in London.
Johnsen is a business economist with a Master of Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH).
Geir Øivind Nygård is responsible for portfolio management, external management security selection, security lending and trading.
Nygård was appointed Chief Asset Strategies Officer on 6 October 2020. Nygård came from the position as Chief Investment Officer for Asset Strategies that he held since 1 January 2017. He joined Norges Bank Investment Management in August 2007 as a Portfolio Manager in Equity Asset Strategies. He was named Global Head of Equity Asset Strategies in October 2009. From February 2016 to January 2017, he filled the role of Global Head of Portfolio Management.
Prior to joining Norges Bank Investment Management, Nygård worked in Arkwright Consulting.
Nygård has a Master of Technology, Industrial Economics and Technology Management from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
