The Norwegian Financial Research Conference

Around 120 people from the academic finance community and practitioners attended the conference.
Yngve Slyngstad opened the conference. In the first session, Professor John Kay, visiting Professor at London School of Economics, gave a speech on the future of capitalism, and Professor Elroy Dimson from London Business School gave a speech with the title “Taking lessons from history”.
Professor Geert Bekaert from Columbia Business School talked about emerging markets in a globalizing world, and Associate Professor Lars A. Løchstøer from Columbia Business School gave a speech titled “Asset pricing when ´This time is different´”. The final speaker, Professor Robert Novy-Marx from Simon Business School, University of Rochester, talked about quality investing. In addition, there were parallel break-out sessions before lunch, where the speakers presented new concepts and ideas.
The conference is organised as part of the Norwegian Finance Initiative (NFI), which is Norges Bank’s programme to promote excellence in financial research and education in areas relevant to the long-term management of the Government Pension Fund Global.
The Norwegian Financial Research Conference aims to bridge the gap between the challenges faced by investment professionals and academic research in the field of finance and financial economics.
